About a month ago the death from wounds was announced of E F Allen, son of Mr Allen, Beetwell Street, Chesterfield and this week news has been received of the death in action on September 17 of another son, Private Albert Allen, Sherwood Foresters. Private Allen was 23 years of age and enlisted in January 1916. His wife lives at 200 Sheffield Road, Stonegravels and in a letter written to her, an Army Chaplain writes that her husband “died the death of a hero and is mourned by many pals.” Before joining the Army Private Allen was engaged in driving a conveyance for his father.
